Masjid of Akhund Mullah

Masjid of Akhund Mullah is considered to be a mosque within a mosque as it is located just below the Makhdoom Sahib Square. This was built by Dara Shikoh, the son of son of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, to honor his tutor Akhun Mulla Shah after his death.

The small mosque is built entirely of limestone and has a courtyard around the main mosque. Over the podium is a stone lotus erected, which is famous as it is the only model of its kind in Kashmir. On this podium there is also a podium that is said to be from 1647. But the best characteristic of the mosque is the beautiful prayer chamber.
