Fort St George

Fort St. George or the White Town is the name of the first fortress that was built on the coastal city of Chennai by the English. This fort was established in the year 1644. This fort was built on the uninhabited lands but now it houses the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. This fort provided the much needed impetus towards the settlement of the British in the country of India. This fort is off limits to the general people as it is now the house of the legislative and it also houses some of the offices of the department of the state government.
